Breast cancer is the second most common cancer death in women. Researchers, doctors and other experts in the health industry never stop their attempt in finding a more effective ways for cancer treatment. Researchers at Kaiser Permanente has conducted a study that reveal how consuming high-fat dairy product will increased the risk of death for women with breast cancer. On the other hand, low-fat product doesn’t seem to have any relation for breast cancer.
Hormone estrogen is one of the few factors that can develop breast cancer. This hormone is produce and stored in adipose tissue or fat cells. So now it’s obvious why high-fat dairy product increase the risk of mortality for women with breast cancer. Moreover, most of dairy product sold in Western Countries comes from pregnant cows which have higher estrogen and progesterone level. Now that you know this fact, consider take a low-fat dairy product instead of a high-fat ones. It is even more important for people with estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer.
The study mentioned above shows that full-fat product contribute in the increment of breast cancer reappearance probability and risk of mortality for women with breast cancer.
Here are some of the full-fat products examined in the study :
- Ice Cream
- Condense or evaporated milk
- Whole milk
To see how those products associated with breast cancer, the participants were observed for 12 years. The result of the study was quite shocking. It shows that people who consume high-fat dairy product daily has 64% higher chance of dying from any cause and 49% higher chance of dying from breast cancer than those who consume low-fat product or lower amount of high-fat product.
Even though the study reveals how full-fat dairy products relate to breast cancer, it’s too early to say that full-fat dairy product will surely lead to a fatal breast cancer outcome. More researches, test, and experiments need to be done to support this study.
Other than avoid consuming full-fat dairy products every day, here are a few things you can do to decreased the possibility of breast cancer reappearance and increase survival chance :
- Routine exercise
- Maintain your body weight
- Do not consume alcohol
- Do not smoke
- Eat more fruits and vegetable and reduce the consumption of processed food
- Routine check up and follow the advice given by your doctor.
